# Is Grapevine free to use?
## This article answers common questions about what it costs to use Grapevine and how payment processing fees work.
Grapevine itself is free. We don't charge your circle or your nonprofit partners any platform fees or administrative fees — every dollar your circle raises goes toward your giving.
The one cost involved is a standard processing fee charged by our payment processor, not by Grapevine. That fee depends on how your members choose to pay:
- **If a member pays by ACH (a direct bank transfer)**, the fee is 0.8% per donation. On a $100 gift, that's about 81¢ — less than the cost of a single Forever stamp (82¢).
- **If a member pays by domestic credit or debit card** (issued in the United States), the fee is 2.2% + 30¢ per donation.
- **If a member pays with an American Express card**, the fee is 3.5% + 30¢ per donation.
- **If a member pays with an international credit or debit card** (issued outside the United States), the fee is 3.2% + 30¢ per donation.
- **If a payment requires currency conversion** (the donor's card charges in a currency other than USD), an additional 1% applies on top of the card rate. For international cards with conversion, that brings the total to 4.2% + 30¢ per donation.
**Can donors choose to cover the processing fee themselves?**
Yes, donors can choose to cover the processing fee. At checkout, donors see an optional box where they can add a little extra on top of their gift to support Grapevine's work. This contribution is never required — donors decide how much extra to leave, if any, and can skip it entirely without affecting their donation.
